There has been social buzz about child passenger safety. Statistics show that about half of all car seats are installed incorrectly! Car seats save lives! They reduce the risk of fatal injury in a crash by 71% for infants and by 54% for toddlers when properly installed and operated.
Most adults don’t know that if you need help installing a car seat, there are inspection locations that will help. Click here to find somewhere near you: https://www.nhtsa.gov/equi…/car-seats-and-booster-seats…
Another important thing that a lot of adults forget is the importance of registering your car seat. THIS IS A MUST! If there are any recalls or safety alerts, you only get notified if you have registered your seat. Click here is you need to register a seat: https://www.nhtsa.gov/equi…/car-seats-and-booster-seats…
There is also an age guide for car seat types but keep in mind that these recommendations are based on age and there are other factors to consider such as height and weight. ( you can check all of these specs recommended by your car seat manufacturer)
-under age 1, always ride in a rear-facing car seat
-1 to 3 years, forward facing car seat with 5 point harness
– 4 to 7 years, booster seat in the backseat of the car
– 8 to 12 years, booster seat until they can fit into seat belt properly.; meaning the lap belt must lie snugly across the upper thighs, not the stomach. The shoulder belt should lie snugly across the shoulder and chest and not cross the neck or face. Child should still be riding seat belted in the back seat of the vehicle
Other great life saving tips:
Buckle children in the middle of the back seat, when possible (using a lap and shoulder belt), because it is typically the safest position in the vehicle.
Air bags can kill young children riding in the front seat. Never place a rear-facing car seat in front of an air bag.
Buckle children in car seats, booster seats, or seat belts on every trip—no matter how short the trip.
Set a good example and help protect everyone in the car by always using a seat belt.
