Choosing the right pediatrician can feel like a daunting task. There are so many questions you, the parent, can ask. Plus, it seems like healthcare provides a myriad of options these days, in the Utah Valley area, and it seems like there are offices everywhere – Utah Valley Pediatrics, Alpine Pediatrics, and many others – the options can seem overwhelming.
But there is good news! By prioritizing what you look for in a pediatrician, this important decision can be made without leaving you crying for your own mom or dad. We have a few questions below for you to ask yourself before choosing a pediatrician.
Is the pediatrics practice you’re considering personable?
Arrange a meeting with your child’s prospective pediatrician and his or her office to discern how your child responds to them. Are the front desk staff friendly? Are the nurses warm, caring, and conscientious? Sometimes, a phone call will tell you all you need to know. These are great questions to ask yourself. At Provo Pediatrics, we will be happy to answer any questions you may have and we are happy to meet with you if you would like.
Do they accept your insurance/Medicaid benefits?
It’s so easy to be starstruck by a nice office, location, and other factors, that it’s all too easy for parents to forget about coverage and billing until it’s time to checkout, which is right when stark reality hits. Call your prospective pediatrician’s office in advance and ask to speak to the billing/insurance specialist, this is especially important in regards to Medicaid.
Your insurance provider’s website will often have a list of practices who are in-network, and if not, give them a call. You will have peace of mind knowing that your benefits are accepted. Here at Provo Pediatrics, we will happily accept Medicaid patients.
Is the location of the practice within a reasonable distance?
This is a very subjective question, and the answer is different for many people. While proximity isn’t everything, it most certainly helps you and your child to be on time to appointments, and an easy to access route can reduce your stress in the case of an emergency. Provo Pediatrics is centrally located in Provo, between highways 6 and 89.
